Jack Steadman

The team’s second general manager and later president and chairman of the board, Steadman was renowned as a businessman, but he also was a key behind-the-scenes player in the teams history. Steadman helped broker the deal that moved the Dallas Texans to Kansas City, and he argued-strongly and, ultimately, successfully – that Hunt should not follow his instincts and retain in the teams old nickname in new city. In the late ’60s, Steadman was instrumental in persuading city leaders to embrace the idea of making the Harry Truman Sports Complex two single-purpose stadiums rather than one multipurpose structure. “Jacks contributions to the American Football League, Arrowhead Stadium and the Chiefs franchise have helped positively define the sport in Mid-America,” said Lamar Hunt.
